Health and Safety is an area where ultimately you can make or break your organization. It can make the difference between survival, bankruptcy or growth. We should strive for health and safety excellence for 3 reasons:
LEGAL - It's the law. Failure to comply with legislative requirements could lead to a court room.
FINANCIAL - The H&S service we offer is not just about compliance, avoiding fines and WCB premiums. The direct costs are obvious to see on any organizations financial reports. The indirect costs however can be much greater and have far serious long term effects. How do you measure loss of reputation?
MORAL - Endangering or even hurting a worker is not acceptable. Would you want it to happen to you? Would you want it to happen to your husband, wife, son, daughter?
Health and Safety can be a minefield. There are many areas where interpretation is required and getting it wrong is not an option.
The business market is a competitive place. It is essential to deliver compliance at minimum but I truly believe that the only way to grow is to deliver best practice.
Do you have a H&S team? How do you know they are effective? Do your investigations truly identify the failures that led to incidents or are they exonerations? Often done with the belief that it's protecting your business when in fact it is quite the opposite. Getting a team on to a proactive footing is often best achieved via a consultant who isn’t swayed by perceived loyalties or hidden pressures. I aim to be the person telling you what you need to hear not want you want to hear. It may well keep you out of the legal, financial and moral dungeon!

Who Am I?
Based out of Golden, BC but with a base in Calgary, Ab.
I am is a senior Health and Safety professional with a keen eye for detail. My qualifications include a PG Diploma in Management via the City and Guilds of London, a former military healthcare professional with NHS experiences as well as several formal H&S diplomas and certificates including the advanced OH&S Diploma from UNB, NEBOSH and Lean 6 Sigma Green Belt.
I have detailed knowledge of legislation in both BC and Alberta and in depth experience in Mb, On, NWT and even Qc.
I hold a formally accredited teaching certificate gained whilst serving a full career in healthcare within the UK Armed Forces.
I aim to bring credibility to safety consulting. Having held senior HSEQ positions for ESS Support Services (Defence, Offshore and Remote Facilities Management) covering all of Canada and as a military senior leader within the UK Army Medical Services. In between these careers I worked in the UK North Sea providing safety support to several vessels and platforms including Drilling Inspection, Maintenance and Repair as well as Diving Operations and Wind Farm Servicing. I have thorough experience with ISO's and I am a trained ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and Integrated Management System Auditor.
My experience of bringing proactive and positive programs leads to serious improvements in safety performance. Whether developing, reviewing or updating H&S Management Systems. Developing and delivering bespoke training or mentoring. Auditing and inspecting. Delivering a safety culture change, I can and will lead you to the place you deserve to be. I also offers Lean 6 Sigma focusing in H&S areas such as PPE standardization and induction, orientation and training consolidation.
Food safety is a particular strength. During his 11 years in Canada I oversaw and supported up to 30 remote camps feeding from 25 workers to 2500. Spending 10s of thousands of hours in these facilities ensuring not just food safety but also the quality the customer both expects and resources. The food safety journey started when spending over 2 years supporting the UK military inspection team in Germany between 2000 and late 2002. This then continued as my career progressed. This indeed assisted in securing a safety role offshore as one of his first vessels had recently suffered a work delay due to food borne illness.
